Topic: ITIL is not enough
Course Presenters: Paul Donald is a Principal Consultant with Lucid IT.
Workshop Duration: Half day – 17 August 2009 2.00 pm until 5.00pm
Workshop numbers – up to 15 people per session.
ITIL, PRINCE2, MSP, Project Portfolio Management, COBIT, VALIT, ISO 20000, TOGAF..... the list goes on. There are a multitude of standards, frameworks and methodologies that can assist an IT organisation in optimising their performance. The question arises as to which of these should I use? Isn't ITIL enough? Unfortunately the answer is no, ITIL isn't enough. ITIL has an excellent life cycle view and in good detail in a number of areas, however the convergence with other standards, frameworks and methodologies is essential to build a complete picture for an IT organisation. Determining where ITIL ‘runs out of steam’ or is ‘out paced’ by these other disciplines, is the real challenge. In the areas where ITIL ‘runs out of steam’ we often get WHAT should be done however the HOW is unclear. In most cases the HOW has already been solved in the various other standards, frameworks and methodologies. This course will provide participants with the knowledge to tackle the convergence of ITIL and other industry recognised standards, frameworks and methodologies based on Lucid IT case studies.
Learning outcomes include understanding:·
What industry standards, frameworks and methodologies make up the convergence puzzle·
How these various disciplines can support ITIL to create a complete model for IT organisations·
How ITIL and other process disciplines must mature together to achieve real business/ICT aligned change·
What your organisation might be missing with its current approach around ITIL
