Where does itSMF Australia fit in?

itSMFA is the Australian chapter of an international forum headquartered in the UK. There are more than 2600 members in Australia, including IT professionals in every industry imaginable. It is a forum in the true sense of the word, in that the knowledge comes collectively from the membership and is shared freely amongst members.

itSMF is the only internationally recognised and independent organisation dedicated to IT Service Management. It is a not-for-profit organisation, wholly owned and principally operated on a volunteer basis by its members, many of whom see this service as 'giving back' to the industry. Members are also exposed to opportunities that may not be available to them in their regular workplaces – such as managing Special Interest Groups, chairing meetings, leading working groups, writing or reviewing white papers and/or presenting at seminars. In short, you can be as involved as you choose to be.

A major contributor to industry 'best practice' and Standards worldwide, itSMF works in partnership with a wide range of governmental and standards bodies around the world. It focuses on providing a framework to structure IT-related activities and the interactions of IT technical personnel with business customers and users.

Originally formed in 1991, there are now 53 national itSMF chapters in an ever-increasing number of countries. On average, at least five new chapters are formed annually contributing to a worldwide membership in excess of 15,000.

How does itSMF Australia operate?

We are managed via our membership through the Board and its Branches which have been established in all States and ACT. itSMF Australia is a registered and legal business entity that was incorporated in Victoria under the Associations Incorporation Act 1981 on June 29, 1998.

Under this Act we are required to operate under a set of rules that govern the composition and election of the Board, operation of State Branches, voting rights of our members, meeting procedures and appropriate behaviour. These rules are based on the Model Rules provided by Victorian Consumer and Business Affairs.

Based in Melbourne, our national office staff deliver Member Services, Events, Administrative Support, Marketing and Accounting functions. More information on the National Office Staff is contained in Contact Us.

What is our organisation structure?

The itSMF Australia is dependent on the goodwill and efforts of a voluntary Board and State Branch Committee members to conduct its business. The Board of volunteers is elected at each Annual General Meeting and consists of the Executive (Chairman, Deputy Chair, Treasurer and Secretary) and four Ordinary members. The Chairperson of each Branch committee also attends Board meetings and contributes to the management of the organisation.

Collectively the Board have over 100 years of ITSM experience, reflecting the full gamut of industries and roles within ITSM.

About IT Service Management:

In recent years, defined process-based service management frameworks have been the foundation upon which many organisations have improved IT Service Delivery, Governance and Risk Management.  These are designed to create operational efficiencies, improve service levels, reduce the costs of delivering IT Service and Support and to align IT services with business objectives.
